Nobivac® Canine 1-DAPPv 5-Way Dosage Guidelines and Considerations

Revival Animal Health is committed to delivering the highest-quality, rigorously tested vaccines for dogs and puppies. Nobivac® Canine 1-DAPPv 5-in-1 vaccine for dogs is a product trusted by breeders and animal care professionals. Each package contains 25 individual doses.

To achieve primary immunity, a minimum of two doses per dog is required, starting after 6 weeks of age and administered at two-to-four-week intervals. While two doses provide basic protection, three are recommended for optimal immunity.

Nobivac® Canine 1-DAPPv vaccine should only be administered to dogs 6 weeks and older. Puppies younger than 6 weeks receive antibodies passed on from their mother, which can interfere with the effectiveness of the vaccine. The vaccine should not be given at intervals less than 14 days, as doing so can suppress the immune system.

How Often Is DAPPv Given to Dogs?
Recommended for healthy dogs 6 weeks of age or older, the Nobivac® 1-DAPPv shot provides one-year protection against these diseases. After the first dose, dogs will need the vaccination at two-to-four-week intervals until they are 12 weeks old.

What Is in the 1-DAPPv Vaccine for Dogs?
Because the Nobivac® DAPPv vaccine contains gentamicin, which is used as a preservative, it should not be given to dogs who are unhealthy, have parasites or are pregnant. Any biological product, like the Nobivac® Canine 1-DAPPv vaccination, could potentially lead to effects ranging from anaphylaxis to inflammatory immune-mediated hypersensitivity.

When using this broad protection vaccine, there are a few special precautions you need to keep in mind. Always use new, non-chemically sterilized syringes and needles, which you can buy separately. Also, never mix the DAPPv vaccine for dogs with any other vaccines. Once you have administered the injection, be sure to burn all unused contents.
Dosage:
  • Transfer contents of the sterile diluent vial to the Nobivac® Canine 1-DAPPv vial aseptically. Mix gently until dissolved. Use the entire contents immediately after rehydration.
  • Vaccinate with 1 ml subcutaneously or intramuscularly.
  • The initial dose may be given at 6 weeks of age or older.
  • Repeat at two-to-four-week intervals until the dog is 12 weeks of age.
  • A minimum of two doses is required for primary immunization.
  • Annual revaccination with one dose is recommended.

After administering each 5-way puppy shot, peel the sticker containing the product information and lot number off the used vial and affix it to the animal's Revival Health Record along with the date of each dose and location, so owners have accurate records of their dog's vaccination protocol.

10 Tips for Vaccinating Groups of Dogs or Puppies

Administering 5-way dog vaccines to active litters of pups or groups of excited dogs needs to be carefully managed - careful planning also goes a long way toward minimizing stress. It can be easy for newly vaccinated animals to blend in with the pack, leaving you second-guessing yourself. The following steps will help avoid confusion, maintain the accuracy of recordkeeping and ensure every dog receives the protective vaccines on schedule:

  1. Create two holding pens: Set up one holding pen and another to place vaccinated dogs.
  2. Lay out the health records: Date the relevant vaccination section and arrange the cards to be easily accessible for adding the vial stickers.
  3. Gather vaccine materials: Collect your supply of sterile needles, syringes and a Sharps collection container to dispose of used materials safely.
  4. Collect the dogs or puppies: Place the animals being vaccinated into the holding pen you created earlier.
  5. Retrieve vaccines from the fridge: Fetch the vaccines last to maintain the cold chain. When vaccinating multiple animals in warm settings, it is advisable to keep vaccines in a cooler to prevent them from warming up before being used.
  6. Reconstitute the vaccine: Draw the sterile diluent from one vial, add it to a Nobivac® Canine 1-DAPPv vial and swirl around gently. Only do one dose at a time.
  7. Administer the vaccine: Vaccinate a dog from the holding pen subcutaneously or intramuscularly, place it into the receiving pen, and immediately dispose of the used needle and syringe.
  8. Complete the paperwork: Remove the peel-off sticker from the used vial, and stick it in the relevant place in the health records.
  9. Repeat the process for each dog in the holding pen: Enjoy complete peace of mind knowing you have supported the long-term health of all your dogs with an outstanding product.
  10. Set a reminder: Record the date the next vaccination is due on your calendar to maintain a rigorous vaccination protocol.
Vaccines must only be reconstituted immediately before administering. To do this, add the contents of one sterile diluent to a vaccine vial and swirl gently until mixed.

Warnings:
  • Contains gentamicin as a preservative.
  • Vaccinate only healthy, non-parasitized dogs.
  • Do not vaccinate pregnant bitches.
  • The use of a biological product may produce anaphylaxis and/or other inflammatory, immune-mediated hypersensitivity reactions. Antidote: Epinephrine, corticosteroids and antihistamines may all be indicated depending on the nature and severity of the reaction.
  • The age at which maternal antibody for canine Parvovirus no longer interferes with the development of active immunity varies according to the bitch's titer and quantity of colostral antibodies absorbed by the puppy.
  • Keep out of reach of children, animals and uninformed persons.
Nobivac vaccines may experience "Meltback", which can cause some discoloration to the cake (dry) portion of the vaccine. This is purely cosmetic and does not affect the efficacy of the vaccination.
