NAXCEL® Sterile Powder is a veterinary antibiotic formulated to treat and control bacterial infections across a variety of animal species. It contains ceftiofur, a broad-spectrum cephalosporin, and is indicated for respiratory, urinary, and early-life bacterial infections depending on the species.
For swine, NAXCEL® treats bacterial respiratory disease caused by Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Pasteurella multocida, Salmonella choleraesuis, and Streptococcus suis. In sheep and goats, it is indicated for respiratory infections associated with Mannheimia haemolytica and Pasteurella multocida. Horses benefit from treatment of respiratory infections caused by Streptococcus zooepidemicus, while dogs may receive NAXCEL® for urinary tract infections caused by Escherichia coli and Proteus mirabilis.
NAXCEL® is also used in poultry, including day-old chicks and turkey poults, to control early mortality associated with E. coli infections susceptible to ceftiofur. The sterile powder formulation allows for flexible dosing and administration under veterinary guidance, tailored to each species and condition.
As with all drugs, the use of NAXCEL Sterile Powder is contraindicated in animals previously found to be hypersensitive to the drug.
Penicillins and cephalosporins can cause allergic reactions in sensitized individuals. Topical exposures to such antimicrobials, including ceftiofur, may elicit mild to severe allergic reactions in some individuals. Repeated or prolonged exposure may lead to sensitization. Avoid direct contact of the product with the skin, eyes, mouth, and clothing. Persons with a known hypersensitivity to penicillin or cephalosporins should avoid exposure to this product.
The effects of ceftiofur on the reproductive performance, pregnancy, and lactation of cattle, swine, sheep, and goats have not been determined.
The administration of antimicrobials to horses under conditions of stress may be associated with acute diarrhea that could be fatal. If acute diarrhea is observed, discontinue use of this antimicrobial and initiate appropriate therapy.

- As with all product handling, make sure you wash your hands after handling medical sharps.
