Product Details
- For lactating dairy cows, beef cows and replacement beef and dairy heifers
- Treats pyometra, chronic endometritis and luteal cysts
- Terminates unwanted pregnancies
- For unobserved or non-detected estrus
- Use with Fertagyl® (gonadoreline) to synchronize estrous cycles in lactating dairy cows
Estrumate® for cows is approved for use in lactating dairy cows, beef cows and replacement beef and dairy heifers. The Estrumate® injection is for unobserved or non-detected estrus, treatment of pyometra, chronic endometritis, luteal cysts or for the treatment of a mummified fetus. Estrumate® can also be used for abortion of beef cows, lactating dairy cows, and replacement beef and dairy heifers. In addition, Estrumate® can be used for estrus synchronization and used with Fertagyl® (gonadorelin) to synchronize estrous cycles to allow for fixed time artificial insemination (FTAI) in lactating dairy cows.
Estrumate® causes functional and morphological regression of the corpus luteum (luteolysis) in cattle. In normal, non-pregnant cycling animals, this effect on the life span of the corpus luteum usually results in estrus 2 to 5 days after treatment. In animals with prolonged luteal function (pyometra, mummified fetus, and luteal cysts), the induced luteolysis usually results in resolution of the condition and return to cyclicity. Pregnant animals may abort depending on the stage of gestation.

Warnings: Do not use this drug in pregnant cattle, unless abortion is desired.
USER SAFETY WARNINGS: Not for use in humans. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children. Women of childbearing age, asthmatics, and persons with bronchial and other respiratory problems should exercise extreme caution when handling this product. Estrumate is readily absorbed through the skin and can cause abortion and/or bronchospasms. Direct contact with the skin should therefore be avoided. Accidental spillage on the skin should be washed off immediately with soap and water.
ANIMAL SAFETY WARNINGS: As with all parenteral products, careful aseptic techniques should be employed to decrease the possibility of post-injection bacterial infection. Severe localized clostridial infections associated with injection of Estrumate have been reported. In rare instances, such infections have resulted in death. Aggressive antibiotic therapy should be employed at the first sign of infection at the injection site, whether localized or diffuse. At 50 and 100 times the recommended dose, mild side effects may be detected in some cattle. These include increased uneasiness, slight frothing, and milk let-down.
Overdoses can be very dangerous. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. If you have difficulty giving the medication, contact your veterinarian.
This medication should only be given to the pet for whom it was prescribed.

Disposal of Unused Prescription Medications
- Return unwanted or unused medications to Revival Animal Health in person, or visit www.disposemymeds.org to find a pharmacy near you.
- A secondary method of drug disposal is to remove the unwanted medication from any wrappers or containers and place it in a plastic bag with moist coffee grounds or cat litter. This can be disposed of in the regular garbage collection.
- Please do NOT dispose of unwanted meds down the drain or toilet, as this may eventually find its way into the human water supply.
Learn more about disposal of unused prescription medications here.
Disposal of Medical Sharps
- When you're finished with the syringe and needle, do not try to recap, remove, bend or break the needle. This is where most injuries occur.
- Dispose the syringe and needle immediately in a nearby sharps container. All sharps must be deposited in a puncture-proof container. Make sure your storage location is child and animal proof.
- As with all product handling, make sure you wash your hands after handling medical sharps.
Disposal of Sharps Container
- When your sharps container is half-full, sift dry Portland Cement throughout the sharps. Fill the container with water, and rotate until the cement is mixed and the sharps have been distributed throughout the cement mixture. Let cement dry for 24 hours.
- Seal the lid of the container tightly and use duct tape to seal. Label the container "Livestock Sharps" to properly identify the contents.
- Dispose of the containers in accordance with your state's regulations.
Our pharmacy hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. − 4:30 p.m. CST.
