Love Your Bird: Pumpkin the Sun Conure
I have lived with Pumpkin since she was a few weeks old and now she’s 28.
Pumpkin has brought me so much happiness and smiles through the years. Pumpkin
has been a Great Companion. -Laura L. in California

Love Your Bird: Marley the ‘Egg-tra’ Special Cockatoo
My Marley (Goffins Cockatoo) was an egg that got kicked out of the nest. Lucky
for the owner who found it, she was determined to save that little egg. She
carefully put the egg in a little box with a light and soon after much turning
and watching the little bird hatched. She was so excited but she did not know
how to feed this little Goffins. This is where I come in. She knew I hand raised
cockatiels and asked if I wanted to take her in. I said of course I will. I hand
feed her and weighed her for seven months. She is my baby and I am her mommy.
She follows me wherever I go. -Connie H. in Washington

Love Your Bird: Precious Pogo the African Grey
Pogo (African Grey) was adopted at eight months old. She had a badly deformed
leg, was self-mutilating, plucking her feathers, had pulled out all of her tail
feathers, and had no idea of how to play with toys. As I began working with her,
she immediately started exhibiting a level of trust in me that has never
waivered, and I uncovered the most precious personality in this little one. Pogo
is feisty, loves to snuggle, and initiate games. She literally changed my life,
and in all honestly, we probably saved each other! Pogo is now 22 years old, and
two years ago she miraculously stopped plucking her feathers, has allowed her
tail feathers to come in and remain, and is now chewing normal parrot toys. She
is a constant precious companion, and my life would never have been the same
without her! – Candace in Texas

Love Your Bird: Loki the Big Bird in a Little Body
I love that Loki (Green Cheek Conure) gets excited when I come home and will
follow me everywhere. It’s never a dull moment with his antics, and performing
his tricks at random times thinking a treat will appear. Of course, he always
gets rewarded for his efforts. I love seeing him tear up every toy possible with
glee. He’s never afraid and has helped me overcome some anxiety. I have learned
a lot of patience from being with him, training and researching the best care.
He is also great with people and has helped several conquer their fear of birds,
so he is an amazing ambassador for the softer side of pet parrots and education
for exotics. My life has more color with Loki in it and I couldn’t ask for a
better companion bird. – Cassandra S. in Texas

Love Your Bird: Journey the Colorful Cockatoo
Journey (Rose Breasted Cockatoo) loves to show off her beautiful colors. She is
very sweet, loveable and too funny. We love her! – Melanie B. in Florida

Love Your Bird: Big Bird the Talkative Macaw
Big Bird (Blue and Gold Macaw) started out as my foster bird and she made the
decision that I was her person long before I adopted her by snuggling at my feet
one day and laying an egg next to my ankle! She has an extensive vocabulary and
uses her words appropriately. One day my husband and I were out to lunch when he
got a call from a UPS driver wanting to know why we wouldn’t open the door. The
conversation the driver had went something like this: Driver rings the doorbell.
‘Hello!’ comes from the house. ‘I have a package for you, can you come to the
door to sign for it?’ he says. ‘Okay!’ from the house. He waits, nobody opens
the door. ‘Hello? Can you open the door?’ ‘Okay!’ Nothing happens. So, he calls
the number. My husband breaks out laughing and explains, ‘We aren’t home. You’re
talking to the parrot!’ So far, Big Bird has convinced the UPS driver, a
pedestrian and a salesman that she’s human. -Elisabeth M. from California

Love Your Bird: Woof the Caring Caique
After my mother died, I was sitting on the bed, feeling sad, while Woof and Meow
played in the blankets behind me. After a minute or two, Woof, a white belly
caique, came up beside me and held out a claw. I thought he wanted to be picked
up, so I put out my finger. Instead of stepping up, he petted my finger and made
soft crying sounds, which in turn made me start crying. It was just what I
needed. How did he know that? I had thought it was I who took care of him. But I
was wrong. My birds take care of me. – Catherine B. in Florida
