Love Your Bird: Candida the Playful Conure

I love my little fid for all the love she gives me unconditionally. Candida (Pineapple Green Cheek Conure) is the smartest little fid ever and knows how to do 30 different tricks from setting the table, bowling, ring toss, money in the bank, going down the slide, pushing a baby carriage, etc. She talks and understands what we are saying, she rules our roost and my husband just loves her.

She goes everywhere with us and loves her car rides and music. She has her own boom box in her room and has four different play gyms throughout the house. She joins us each night for dinner and shares our meals (birdie safe of course). She snuggles with us at night while we watch tv. My husband makes a late-night snack for the two of them and she tells him snack and snuggle! Candida is such a snuggle bird and loves her snuggle time with us! Candida is always there for us as we will always be there for her!

Love Your Bird: Joy Sings Joyous Songs

Joy (Congo African Grey) is my Joy. I am a music teacher and singer. I have taught her many songs like ‘Happy Birthday’ and ‘Don’t Worry, Be Happy!’ She can whistle the Andy Griffith tune and Jeopardy. She can add, telling you that ‘2+2 is 4!’ and ‘4 + 1 is 5.’ She has a varied vocabulary, but the thing I like most to hear her say is ‘Momma’s home!’ She says this whenever I come home from work or shopping. Joy is seven years old now and has brought me seven years of happiness. I love her dearly.

Love Your Bird: Paca the Feathered Sidekick

Paca (Blue and Gold Macaw) is a rescue bird, I already had three parrots before I got Paca. She was abused and very thin and was scared of everyone and everything. It took some time and she only trusted me. Don’t know why, but that’s how it goes, birds know. Everyone says I have a way with parrots. Paca has changed my life. She knows that my left shoulder is my bad one, I have had six surgeries and she will not go to that shoulder. She is my buddy and we go everywhere together. She changed my life big time. If you look closely at this picture she has no black lines on her face. This is the first day I got her.

Love Your Bird: Moggie the Cockatiel

Moggie’s (a cockatiel) tip of his beak was chipped off by his parents (birds) when he was a hand raised baby. The pet store owners were going to euthanize him for that reason. My aunt and I were in the store purchasing our bird food and my aunt would not allow them to euthanize him. Aunt Amy purchased Moggie for $20 along with an $80 cage. My aunt went to her heavenly reward in 2010 making sure her will had a codicil releasing Moggie to me.

He is free flighted and loves to show off his flying skills. A little bird but a large ‘birdonality’! Always willing to show his appreciation for daily room service by wolf whistling at me.

Love Your Bird: Wally’s Big Surprise

I love my Wally (Yellow-Naped Amazon) because she gives me so much fun and loving company. She does love to nip and she has a lot to nip about as she was my boy for fifteen years and the test confirmed she was a boy until she laid an egg last year and proved everyone wrong. I still call her a ‘he’ once in a while but she is my baby!!

Love Your Bird: Oscar the Lovey Lovebird

I love Oscar because he is my first baby bird. He is only a month old and has already become bonded to me and never leaves my side. He has already learned how to step up. He is so incredibly important to me and is so sweet and precious I wouldn’t give him up for anything in the world.
