Grams stains are used to differentiate gram-positive & gram-negative bacteria, as example from as ear swab or other culture. Then the veterinarian can chose which antibiotic treatment will be most effective. They can also follow up this identification process with sensitivity testing, and then choose the MOST effective antibiotic.
