5 Things Before Baby Comes Home
SOMETHING TO SLEEP IN
Like a crib the puppy or kitten will be more comfortable with a carrier to sleep in. Make it small enough they can turn around and sleep but not so big they can have a bathroom at one end and a sleeping area at the other. Kittens can have a larger carrier
if you put a litter box
with them to confine. Most kittens don’t need the litter box if you are only gone a few hours.
FOOD AND WATER BOWLS
You will want to get food and water bowls
designed for your pet and a food mat so all know where the food and water is. Make sure the bowl size will fit the adult you will soon have. If you have a Savanna kitten or large breed puppy, they grow fast! We can help you find the right bowl size if you need. The mat is easier to clean and makes it less likely someone will stumble over the bowl.
LEASHES OR LEADS
Leashes or leads
are best for security even with kittens. The show leads are great as they slip over the head, adjust with age and cannot be easily slipped. You can leash break with them easily as the kitten or puppy learns quickly if they slack the leash it lightens the pull on neck.
APPETITE AND VITAMIN TREATMENT
Appetite and vitamin
treatment is proactive to keep appetite up during the first few months when growth is constant and fast.
- Small breeds and kittens need Doc Roy’s® FORTI CAL™ high energy supplement three times a day for one week then daily for a second week. The high calorie keeps them from getting hypoglycemic and the vitamin in the FORTI CAL™ keeps their appetite up.
- Large breeds need support for bone growth. Doc Roy’s® HEALTHY BONES formula is a vitamin mineral supplement that will assure uninterrupted bone growth. The first eight months of fast growth of long bones can challenge a large breed dog. They benefit from bone support during that time.
Give them Doc Roy’s® GI SYNBIOTICS
daily for the first two weeks. GI upsets are common when changing homes or diet. It’s better to prevent rather than wait for an issue to happen!
Use GI SYNBIOTICS once a day as a preventative. For the first two weeks, sprinkle the POWDER on food or feed the GEL directly in mouth. After two weeks the baby will acclimate to their new schedule and be less likely to have issues. Keep GI SYNBIOTICS on hand to treat any tummy upset you encounter in the future. Use twice a day when having tummy issues then once a day for one week after recovery. Use daily for several days any time you change food to avoid seeing digestive problems.
