Horse Worming Schedule

As horse owners, we must rotate dewormers throughout the year, utilizing different chemical classes, not just different brand names. This important practice serves to reduce the chances of developed resistance in parasites, as well as to maximize the best attributes of each chemical compound.

Macrocyclic Lactones: Causes paralysis in parasites, including a broad spectrum of nematodes and arthropods. It affects large and small strongyles, benzimidazole-resistant small stronglyes, ascarids, pinworms, bots and summer sore-causing parasites.
Eqvalan

Combined Macrocyclic Lactones and Praziquantel: Same as macrocyclic lactones- but with praziquantel. Controls all of the above PLUS tapeworms that have been proven to cause colic.
Equimax 6.42gm

Benzimidazoles: Kills parasites quickly and offers broad spectrum nematode protection, including large strongyles, small strongyles, ascarids and pinworms.
Panacur Paste

Pyrantels: Kills parasites slowly by causing paralysis in a broad spectrum of nematodes, such as large and small strongyles, ascarids and pinworms.
Protal Pyrantel Paste 18.8gm

Doc Roy recommendations for rotating dewormer: December – January: Benzimidazoles February – March: Pyrantels April – May: Macrocyclic Lactones June – July: Benzimidazoles August – September: Pyrantels October – November: Macrocyclic Lactones
