Vaccination Protects Pets from Deadly Diseases
Vaccination is always important in your dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. As the summer season starts, it’s a good time to stop and make sure your pets are updated in their vaccines, preparing them for whatever adventures they may find.
As you start your summer travels, there’s no way to know what kind of diseases your pet may encounter. Some diseases are more prevalent in different parts of the country. Check the vaccination regulations of your planned destination, and keep a copy of your pet’s vaccination records with you as you travel in case of emergency.
Summer also has a higher risk of outdoor threats in general. Your pet may come in contact with a variety of wild animals, which can carry diseases such as rabies or leptospirosis. Lepto in particular has a higher survival rate in the summer months, especially in wet, moist environments. Your pets may also encounter ticks, which can carry Lyme Disease. All of these diseases can be prevented with vaccines.
Puppies and kittens that were born in the late spring are also ready for their first round of vaccines. Make sure these litters have their correct shots before they go to their new homes – and whatever diseases they may face there.
Before you jump headfirst into the season, take a quick moment to consider your pet’s vaccination protection.
