Goodwinol Ointment (27289-127)
I used this in conjunction with Goodwinol shampoo on my Irish setter. He was diagnosed with demodex mange. I rubbed this ointment into his hot spots and his fur started growing back in less than a month. It also stopped him from scratching.
My dog has recurring mites because he was born with a weakened immune system. The Goodwinol does help with killing the mites and soothes his skin so he doesn't itch as much. He is on Ivermectin and an antihistamine for the itching. I haven't tried the Lime Sulfur Dip yet, but hope with a regular maintenance program we can stop the mites! Does anyone else have a dog with the demodex mites that recur no matter what you and your vet do?
One of our dogs was near death with hair loss, zits everywhere, etc. We started feeding him organic food and he is about well now. Organic is expensive, so we feed her organic chicken meat, not bones. Also organic raw eggs mixed with organic oatmeal is good. She experiences pain everywhere about once every 3 or 4 months so I give her a dab of aspirin with a little of my own antibiotics left over from an infection which seems to get her OK again.
Very Old-school treatment for an ancient problem. Easy to apply and works fast if you catch the mange at a fairly early stage (1-4 lesions). Dogs tolerate it very well.
This was prescribed by my Vet for my Pit Bull pup when she was just 3 mos old, it worked like a charm.
She is now 4 years old and gets flare ups, seemingly after she eats poop (she does this when her doggy dad gives her and her brothers treats from the table). At first sight of the lesions, I apply this cream and
the problem is gone within a week. She has always had a mild case, because it was detected soon enough.
The key with Mange is to stay on top of it, because it is very aggressive and fast spreading.
