Bought this for the bottom of an Xpen and an additional one to sign several crates for a puppy. It worked well because if she had an accident I still had a dry pup. Washes and drys well.
Concerned about the quality of this product
I was very disappointed in the quality of this whelping pad. I have bought these in the past when they were dark green and used them repeatedly for several years. This one, created alot of fuzz, with its first use, which if injested can cause an intestinal blockage. For one day I thought the Dam had a blockage because she stopped eating and had vomited several times. In the vomit was some of the fuzz from the whelping pad. My Vet advised me on some medication and within a couple of days she was doing better.
I have like using these before because it does keep the pups dry, but I don't know if I will use it again.
Drymate Max Whelping box liner
I would not recommend this pad to anyone who needs to use it more than once. the first use, it works as described. But during the first use, the fibers bunch and entangle hair from the dog. It is a real mess. It still holds water well and keeps everyone dry. It just looks like you never clean your pad. No matter how careful your are to follow the directions. I will be looking at other pads as I whelp multiple litters a year.
Fuzzy but warm
I have never used anything but newspapers in the whelping box but, after mom almost stepped on a puppy who got underneath the papers, I decided to try this pad. So far it has withstood the frequent digging that mom has done and she has scratched up a lot of the fiber, but it is still looking decent. I love that it is so warm. The puppies are very comfortable on it, comfortable and warm enough to frequently be out from under the heat lamp. I would definitely recommend this pad and will be purchasing spares to have on hand while washing.
Have used for many years!
I was very surprised when I read these negative reviews as I have 2 that I bought several years ago and I love them. I've not had the problems that some people have had. I've used these over and over...when I have litters a few times a year and mine are still in great shape. The backing on mine is still intact and I even put them in the dryer! I guess maybe it's like with most things today....you find something you love and then they start to cheapen it by finding ways to make it for less, thus the quality goes down. I'm very disappointed because I was planning on buying some more, but now I don't know if I'm going to. The only thing that I've noticed with them is that they pill pretty badly after being washed so many times, but I've found a way to make them look pretty good again. I used to use one of those big battery operated pill-removers, which worked but took a long time. The other day I decided to try a slicker brush....took a lot of muscle power but it worked great! One thing I've learned is not to wash it with light colored bedding that can come off on them such as blankets that pill, because all that ends up on the dark mat, so now I only wash it with dark dog bedding that doesn't pill....works so much better and makes a lot less work! Hope this helps someone!
