Flea Allergies

When fleas feed on blood, their saliva uses a protein to prevent the blood from clotting. Pets are often sensitive to this protein, which causes flea allergies. Fleas feed several times a day, for up to 4 hours each time. With that in mind, it's no wonder your pets are continually scratching and tearing at their skin.

You can prevent flea allergies by preventing fleas from feeding. Sounds easy, right? However, it involves a multi-step approach to flea control. Monthly preventatives are important, but it's also important to control your home environment. Rabbits and squirrels are common carriers of fleas, so treating your yard twice a year helps prevent infestation. Whenever you leave home, it's also helpful to spray your dog with a flea repellent, such as Adams flea mist, to prevent your dog from being overwhelmed with fleas in uncontrolled environments.

With these simple steps, you can have a successful plan to keep fleas away from your pets!
