Using PEM Flooring in Professional Pet Facilities

More and more professional pet facilities are using PEM flooring after learning about its benefits and versatility. PEM flooring is often used in cage banks, dog kennels and grooming stations. In some states it is compliant with legislation to provide a "solid resting surface."

PEM flooring acquired national recognition when it was chosen by USA Swimming for use at various national and international competitions across the United States. The goal was to create a safer, non-slip environment for the participating athletes than the tile or concrete floors present at these facilities. PEM flooring was the answer to all of the USA Swimming's concerns—it provided a safer environment for competitors and it was easy to apply, remove and store for future use.

PEM flooring has been tested in Blue Ribbon Kennels in the state of Missouri. Dog breeders, in particular, like the features of PEM flooring for use in kennel beds, dog runs and whelping pens. Loeb-A-Rosa Kennel owner reported the flooring was easy to cut to the right size and provided a solid, non-slip resting surface, which was compliant with her state's newly passed laws. She liked the way water and urine passed through the surface, keeping pets dry; plus it required very little maintenance. She said feces was easy to remove and the flooring washed down quickly. Plus, it had antimicrobial properties to inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi and mildew. This helps to protect her moms and babies.

Owners of small to medium sized dogs found the Lightweight PEM flooring easy to handle, especially where daily cleaning may be necessary.

High Traffic PEM is recommended for owners of large breed dogs or for hyper dogs with digging issues. It has a tighter construction, plus increased padding and durability. A breeder of Bull Dogs indicated the non-slip attributes of High Traffic PEM flooring was a great benefit for his puppies, as these dogs can sustain serious injury with their heavy bodies and short legs.

Fluff PEM has a thicker, yet looser, construction and is designed for use in whelping pens only. It keeps moms and newborns comfortable and dry, plus it protects them against bacteria. A breeder of Great Danes stacked the Fluff underneath the High Traffic for maximum comfort for her mom and pups.

Shelters, rescues and vet hospitals are using PEM in walkways, on inspection tables and inside cage banks. Besides reducing the risk of slips and falls, it provides a comfortable resting place that is easy to clean. PEM also provides a moisture barrier, making it great for keeping bagged food off concrete floors.

Groomers are using PEM in front of sinks, tubs, grooming tables and in walkways for their own comfort while standing and for the safe, non-slip, low-maintenance surface.

Sportsmen use PEM in truck beds, docks and boat floors to give pets a non-slip surface and keep them comfortable and dry.

PEM Flooring is a quality product made in the USA that has become a "must have" in animal care facilities for its versatility.
