West Nile Virus is becoming one of the fastest growing health threats to horses nationwide. Although there is no way to prevent mosquitoes that carry West Nile from biting your horse, you can prevent the virus from becoming an issue. West Nile - Innovator® delivers protection against West Nile Virus in horses. The intramuscular vaccination is for healthy horses 10 months of age or older. Effectiveness was demonstrated in horses that received two doses of the vaccine and were challenged one year post-vaccination with the virus. The vaccine protected 95% of the vaccinates against infection, while 82% of the controls were viremic. West Nile – Innovator® is the only West Nile Virus vaccine adjuvanted with MetaStim® for improved immune response. Ready-to-use, killed virus. One dose syringe includes needle. Do not freeze.
Store in the dark at 2 to 7°C (35 to 45°F). Do not freeze.
Shake well. Use entire contents when first opened.
Vaccinated horses may develop antibody to West Nile Virus, which may affect ability to export the animal.
In some instances, transient local reactions may occur at the injection site.
Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter.
In case of anaphylactoid reaction, administer epinephrine.
Thimerosal, neomycin and polymyxin B added as preservatives.
Inject 1 ml dose intramuscularly using aseptic technique. Administer a second 1 ml dose 3 to 6 weeks after the first dose in unvaccinated or naïve horses. A 1 ml revaccination should be given annually in previously vaccinated horses. Early revaccination may be advisable when horses are faced with an outbreak or with other conditions that might make exposure likely. Always read and follow label indications.
