Strepvax® II is for use in healthy horses of all ages as an aid in the prevention of disease (Strangles) due to Streptococcus equi infection. Strepvax® II is a concentrated, aluminum hydroxide - absorbed suspension of purified antigens derived from S. equi cells. Contains the antigenic protein of S. equi but is essentially free of the toxic and irritant substances present in whole cell bacterins. This vaccine has been observed to decrease the incidence and severity of Strangles in controlled efficacy studies as well as under field conditions. When its use is combined with good hygiene and the segregation of affected individuals, Strepvax® II will help to limit the occurrence of clinical disease and to minimize sequela. Killed virus. One dose syringe includes needle.
Store at 35-45°F (2-7°C). Protect from freezing.
Shake well. Use entire contents when first opened.
Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter.
In case of anaphylactoid reaction, administer epinephrine.
Field reports suggest that certain hypersensitive individuals may demonstrate local or generalized reactions, sometimes severe, following exposure to streptococcal proteins. Field studies indicate that postvaccinal exercise will appreciably decrease the incidence and duration of reactions.
Shake well. Vaccinate healthy horses with a 1 ml dose IM preferably in the hind quarters. For primary vaccination give 3 doses at intervals of 3 weeks. Foals vaccinated when less than 3 months of age should receive an additional dose at 6 months. Revaccinate annually and prior to anticipated exposure, using a single 1 ml dose. Use a separate needle for each injection.
