Instructions
Esbilac® 2nd Step Directions for Use: Recommended as the transition diet to take puppies from nursing to solid food. Puppies that are on their feet and lapping from a bowl may be introduced to Esbilac® 2nd Step. Can be used with puppies four to eight weeks old.
Esbilac® 2nd Step Puppy Weaning Food is a formulated for growing puppies. Esbilac® 2nd Step Weaning Food may be mixed with water; however, for a more gradual change from bitch’s milk to a solid diet it is recommended that it be mixed with liquid Esbilac®. Esbilac® 2nd Step Puppy Weaning Food should be fed until puppies are seven to eight weeks old when they can be fed commercial puppy or dog food. All changes should be made gradually over a one week period. Provide fresh, clean water at all times.
Feeding Guidelines:
Feed puppies three times per day.
Small Puppies (1 lb average) feed 1 tablespoon powder.
Medium puppies (3 lb average) feed 4 tablespoons powder.
Large puppies (5 lbs average) feed 5 tablespoons powder.
Mixing Directions: Determine the daily amount of Esbilac® 2nd Step powder to be fed to the puppy using the information on the label. Reconstitute powder by using three parts (a part is any measuring device used, a teaspoon, tablespoon, or cup) of liquid Esbilac® or water to one part powder for the first few days. This will make a thin gruel. As puppies grow decrease the amount of water mixed with powder until weaning food is an oatmeal consistency. Remove the uneaten portion after no more than 20 minutes.
Weigh the puppies at least once a week to monitor weight gain and adequacy of feeding. More or less food may be needed by individual puppies to satisfy their food requirements for optimum performance. Consult your veterinarians for additional advice.
