I purchased one of these after I fed a kitten with a syringe, and she took a big breath right after I put some liquid in her mouth. The little soft plastic bottles in the retail stores are useless for a small kitten - the nipple is far too big. I'm currently feeding a kitten, and have been since he was born. Mom is feeding his 2 litter mates, and he just somehow never got a nipple of his own. It's a great nurser, easy to hold, easy to regulate the flow of milk, easy to tell the temperature of the liquid without even putting a drop on your wrist, etc. My only complaint is that I'd love the company to create an alternate set of nipples for neonatal kittens. The ones that come with the bottle are too long - I had to cut the end off so it didn't reach halfway down the kitten's throat. But, other than that, this is a GREAT alternative to either tube feeding - which is difficult for a single person to manage - or feeding with a syringe - dangerous if the plunger sticks and then suddenly comes unstuck. So I'll continue to cut the nipples down to a manageable length - but, all in all, this product has made 3 hour feeding intervals - bearable. And, it's safe enough that even at 3:00 when I'm not exactly at my best - it's a safe way to feed a kitten.
